Degrees Weather App Reviews

Not very useful - logs you onto Yahoo site for weather

I got the app because of the reviews of it. Its actually not very useful, it gives the temp and the current weather (via an icon) but to get detailed weather, it actually opens your default browser and brings you to the US yahoo site. After a lenghtly wait (between 1 to 5 minutes this past week), the Yahoo page opens with the weather. As several users have indicated, it doesnt work in several Canadian cities and, as I discovered on a recent short trip to Europe, it doesnt work at all over there - even though it is set to automatically find my current location. You are better off using a weather app on your smartphone, which gives a lot more information. I find the weather function built into BusyCal (my calendar) more useful as it provides a lot more information, in a short time frame compated to this app. If I had been the designer, I would have designed something more robust - most of us tend to look for the weather over the next few days, not just the weather at this hour. I am removing it and looking for something else.

It works

For me, it does what it says. I didnt have the issues mentioned in some of the other reviews. - When I first installed it and checked how much memory it was using, it was using 17mb, which for what it is, is pretty bad. But ever since that initial load, its been sitting at about 5mb used. Still not lean, but not bad. - I didnt have any issues finding my location.

Good app, needs some adjustments

I like this app very much, nice looks, simple, and fairly good data (sometimes off by a degree or two), but it needs more options. The one I would really quite like to have is wind chill. But as I said, all in all, a very nice, simple app.

Peter

This app is probably good for people who live in big cities. I live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and the closest city supported is 150 km away. So sad.

Where is "feels like" ?

Update : Version 2.0.8 and still no option to display the « feel like » (wind chill) temperature. :-( Need a "feels like" temperature information in menu bar please. Thats all it need to be almost perfect. Thanks.

My favorite app

Degrees puts weather where it belongs – the menubar. Even better now with retina display support.

Dark Menu Yosemite

Great! but 5 stars when you update for Dark Menu option.

One of the best apps on the app store.

Small, compact and does exactly what it’s supposed to. Thumbs up for the dev providing timely updates.

Does its job

Sits there in the menu bar telling me the outside temperature in my small Canadian community. I ponied up the 2 bucks so when I click on it I get the 4 day forecast — worth it for me. It, well, just works.

Degrees 4.0 – Top of its class, but not quite perfect

Degrees is an excellent application, especially for free. Utilizing crisp iconography that has been optimized for retina displays as well as OS X Yosemite’s new dark mode display, Degrees provides the current weather at a glance whenever you’re working at your computer. With a quick click on the icon, a well-designed dropdown pops open and displays the current conditions with a text description and more concise iconography which, as far as I can tell, seems to be a slightly modified version of Erik Flowers’ excellent Weather Icons. Additionally Degrees also displays the current wind and humidity. Through an in-app purchase of $2, you can also unlock the ability to have a 4-day forecast displayed in the dropdown menu as well. Preferences are fairly sparse, but appropriate. You can choose your location, whether to use metric (°C, wind in km/h) or imperial (°F, wind in mi/h), whether to display weather conditions or the temperature unit in the menu bar, and whether to start Degrees when you log in to your computer. I’ve been using Degrees for over a year now, and I’ve found that it performs admirably. It’s always quick to update, has essentially no impact on battery life, and displays information in a clear, concise way. There are a few things I think could be improved, though. First is the humidity display. While the general public is used to seeing relative humidity, most people interested in the weather know that it’s a relatively useless number. I’d love to see the option to display the dewpoint temperature instead. I have not paid to unlock the forecasts because I cannot find any documentation that states where they are supplied from. While current conditions are reliable from nearly any provider (since they’re generally sourced from WMO-member organizations), forecasts are a different matter. Before I pay to have them, I’d like to know whether they’re from a reliable provider for my area or not. Lastly, I’d prefer it if the application had some mechanism to convey weather alerts for the selected location. I understand that would dramatically increase the complexity of the application, but it would be very useful as a user. Overall, I recommend Degrees. While it would be great if it offered a little more information, there are relatively understandable limitations in obtaining some of that data, especially for a free app. If you’re looking for a light-weight menu-bar app that tells you what it’s like outside then you can’t find much better than this.

Needs Improvement

Choice of grey in the GUI fine for style but completely useless on a 30” monitor when trying to read wind direction…the text is too small/buggy under the numbers of the wind speed and humidity. Also, the inability to choose weather source is frustrating. There are two choices for my location–one showing -30C and one showing -13C. HUGE difference. Giving users the ability to set the source to something other than YAHOO weather would be a good idea. Also, $1.99 for the forecast seems a little steep. I’d go for .99, but until there is more functionality (like the ability to set multiple weather locations in menubar) I don’t see the value. On the positive side, as a professional designer, I really have to give full props for the graphics (minus the above comment)…it’s a pleasant addition to my menubar.

Would not detect my location

Would not detect my location, and when manually typing in my city name (Ottawa, Canada), the only results it found were in the US.

Doesn’t Work

I think if an App is made specifically for U.S. It should mention that in the description. It doesn’t work in my city, Ottawa Canada and Ottawa by the way is the capital of Canada. I am assuming that it would not work internationally.

Working seamlessly beautiful !

Never had a problem with it! And it does what it’s suppose to do!

degrees

works great very handy for a quick glance

As advertised

well done, team! all in all, the free version has lived up to my expectations. I get the weather displayed in my toolbar from the city I am in. Thank you for making it simple.

Simple and it works great

Great app. It’s simple, looks great, and has a very reasonable IAP to unlock some useful features. Great value.

dwgrees version 2.0.8

Now it doesn’t work. It will not let me change location to where i am I cannot seem to get rid of it now or delete it. It sits there showing the wrong temperature

Forecast stopped working

Good app - when it works. I paid the $1.99 to get the upgraded version, and now, whenever I click on the temperature to view the rest of the week, nothing happens. I restart the app, it works for a few hours, and once again stops responding. Clicking “support” just takes you back to the App Store website, so I don’t even see a way to contact the developer.

Pictures are from pro version

The pictures show a 5 day forecast which is only in the pro version, so they are a bit misleading. In the free version, the 5 day forecast has been replaced by an ad for the pro version. Other than the ad, the free version looks good and seems to work well.
